Ashram promotes eco-friendly beauty treatments

Ashram Housing Association is celebrating International Women’s Day by holding a series of environmentally friendly ‘pampering days’ across Birmingham.

Ghulab, a residential home for older people, and Bosworth Drive Community Centre will both host events where women can come along and enjoy a free beauty session using environmentally-friendly products.

Ashram is also running an event on Tuesday 9th March in partnership with Birmingham Link at the St Paul’s Centre in Birmingham.

“We come into contact with many women who have tough and demanding lives and they deserve this opportunity for a bit of pampering,” said Jasvinder Kainth, who is organising the event at Bosworth Drive.

“But it’s not just an opportunity to have a bit of fun – we’re also integrating Ashram’s ‘Goal to be Green’ into everything we do, and looking at ways that people can be more sustainable in their daily life.”

A key aim of all the events is also to give women the chance to have a say on the issues that affect them in their community and get help and advice on a range of isssues.

“The women who Ashram typically work with are from disadvantaged backgrounds and have often had very difficult lives”, said Jasvinder.

“They often feel that they don’t have much control over what happens to them. We feel it’s important to give them a platform to voice their concerns.”

All of the events are free and include provision for childcare.

The events will take place at Ghulab Ashram on Thursday 11th March (11am-2pm), Bosworth Drive Community Centre on Wednesday 10th March at 11am-2pm and St Paul’s Centre in Bordesley Green on Tuesday 9th March (10am-2pm).
